Gingrich Deserves Credit

Dissent

By Melissa ROSE Langsam

Attacking Gingrich for the `damage that wrought on [Congress] over the last four years' is short sighted. Gingrich and his colleagues have been no more partisan than those on the left side of the aisle, and no more nasty than the vicious and unsavory characters on the White House staff.

Additionally, Congress has made great advances during the last four years. They have led the nation into a new and more responsible era.

Without Gingrich, there would be no balanced budget (or stock market boom) or welfare reform, a measure for which the Clinton White House has since taken credit.

Gingrich deserves to be remembered for his positive contributions to the American people, not with malicious statements of malevolent onlookers.
