BRONX, N.Y.--As the Harvard Investment Association wrapped up its annual field trip to Wall Street Wednesday evening they learned that blue chips weren't the only ones crashing.
An hour into the return trip home, a Frito Lay truck smashed into the right side of the association's Century charter bus in Bronx, N.Y.
"I was just trying to watch the movie, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a truck coming right at us," said Kevin Williams '02. "It scared the chip out of me!"
No one was injured. The two drivers argued over who was at fault while 32 students waited on the bus and oncoming traffic swerved to avoid the bus as it blocked three lanes.
An NYPD officer arrived about 15 minutes after the accident and concluded, based on eyewitness reports, that the truck driver was at fault.
Each year the club makes a trek to New York City to gain first-hand exposure to the world of finance.
On this occasion, Goldman Sachs and Bear Sterns associates took the students out to lunch and breakfast. Later, the association toured the New York Stock Exchange.
"By actually getting to see the traders in their workplace, I was able to gain insight I never would have gotten had I just attended a general on-campus information session," said Jon D. Markham '02.
