Harvard Plans Athletics Study

Meeting Tonight in Emerson

By Jamal K. Greene

As part of the NCAA Division I athletics certification process, Harvard is holding an open meeting tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Emerson Hall 305.

The purpose of the meeting--open to all members of the Harvard community--is to create a dialogue between the school's Intercollegiate Athletics program and the student body at large. Several members of the NCAA Self-Study steering committee will be on hand to answer questions.

Tonight's meeting is just a small part of a lengthy study designed to uncover information concerning Harvard's academic and financial integrity, compliance to NCAA rules, and commitment to equity in its athletics programs.

The self-study also has a web site that interested students can browse at http://www.harvard.edu/ncaa_self_study/.
