Harvard's women's water polo team crushed Boston College 22-9 last night at Blogett Pool in the team's first scrimmage of the season.
The Crimson jumped to an early 9-0 lead after the first quarter as freshman goalie Kit Hodge held the Eagles scoreless for the quarter.
Co-captain Missy Ford led the Crimson scoring barrage with six goals. Freshman Leslie Bennett fired in four. Junior Julie Kitchenka and seniors Ann Marie Sevcsik and Jen Gibney hurled in three goals apiece.
The team is optimistic about the upcoming season, which officially starts March 15 at the MIT tournament, where Harvard will face Wellesley, Bates, MIT and Boston College.
Head coach Maureen Travers saw the throttling of Boston College as a sign of better things to come.
"It looks very promising. I liked how everybody looked," she said.
