Transgender Absurd

DISSENT

By Noah Oppenheim

While I am opposed to discrimination on any grounds, this latest action by the UC is just another indication that the champions of political correctness have again crossed into the realm of the absurd. I respect the right of individuals to perceive themselves however they please but do not believe that such self-perceptions need form the basis for a minority group that must be explicitly protected. By urging the University to adopt a legal policy towards individuals who wish to transcend their physical characteristics in forming identity, the UC is leading the way into both intellectually and practically convuluted territory. The Council would spend its time more effectively addressing issues such as section sizes and core reform.
