The mark of a true dynasty, like that of the New York Yankees of the '20s and the Boston Celtics of the '60s, is the continued domination of a sport.
The Harvard women's squash team qualifies.
In winning the Howe Cup again this weekend, the Crimson wrapped up its fifth straight national championship, an unprecedented mark. The Crimson dominated its early competition, but was more impressive in its 5-4 defeat of rival Princeton in the finals.
For the season, Harvard won all 12 of its matches, racking up a 5-0 mark in the Ivy League. Seven of the teams victories came in 9-0 sweeps.
Over the past five seasons the women's squash team is an astounding 64-0 overall and 38-0 in the Ivies.
More impressive may be the fact that all this is done in relative anonymity. Recognition and fan support is minimal, yet year-in and year-out the Harvard squash teams are the best teams in the country.
