We at Dartboard are rather surprised at the heated debate over the lack of a certain fruit in the dining halls--yes, we are speaking about the "Great Grape Referendum." Not since the affirmative action debate have we seen such activism from the student body. From vigils to buttons, grapes have suddenly become the focus of dining hall conversation as well as flyers.

We acknowledge that there are social and political issues behind the anti-grape coalition. We can understand the passion for the grape workers in California and the inclination to continue Harvard's boycott.

As for the pro-grape coalition, we fail to understand what has inspired such long-lasting passion. It's a fruit. Perhaps a tastier-than-average fruit, but a fruit nonetheless. Would the fruit be sweeter than the victory in this battle? We aren't so certain.

Next week, watch for the new debate. We at Dartboard have a hankering for some peaches, plums and maybe even kiwi fruit.
