Hill House Purchases 'Real World' Building In Boston

The Boston Department of Neighborhood Development announced at a meeting last night that the historic Beacon Hill fire station used during the filming of the sixth season of MTV's "The Real World" will be sold to Hill House, a group which plans to transform the property into a community center.

Hill House plans to use the property to provide "day care and youth activities," according to Tom J. Philbin, spokesperson for the Boston Department of Neighborhood Development, which is currently managing the property.

Before Hill House can solidify its plans for the fire station, "they have to first meet with the community to talk about the property," Philbin said.

The terms of the agreement--including the price Hill House will pay for the property--have not been finalized, Philbin said.

Philbin previously speculated that the fire station would sell for roughly $500,000.

Hill House was selected from a pool of seven proposals received from groups and individuals.

The proposals were judges based on "financing, community use and compatibility with the neighboring residences" by a committee "put together within city government" Philpin said in an earlier interview.

Hill House currently operates another community center in Beacon Hill and is looking to expand its facilities, Philbin said.
