The Cambridge City Council passed a resolution Monday night declaring Robert Winfrey to have been "Conductor Extraordinaire of the Kuumba Singers of Harvard University for 25 harmonious years."

"He's been the father of our family," said Kuumba President Phillip A. Goff '99. "He keeps everyone in contact with each other."

The council resolution states, "Under Mr. Winfrey's guidance, the young men and women of Kuumba have flourished not only chorally, but as well nurtured spiritual beings who have learned to work together successfully to bring many successful concerts and tours to the public."

"He's more than a conductor," said Jante C. Santos '99. "He's a friend."

Currently there are 178 registered members of Kuumba, Goff said.
