Eliot House Moves Facebook On-Line

By Jason T. Benowitz

It's late at night. You're surfing the Internet, staring at your own reflection in the screen, when you notice your address, telephone number and concentration.

Yes, Eliot House has followed Pforzheimer House's lead, putting its facebook on-line.

Seth P. Sternglanz '98, operator of the Eliot House on-line facebook, said every resident's name, address, phone number, photo and e-mail address are available on the World Wide Web site.

Access to the Internet facebooks are restricted to residents of the houses, meaning nobody else can view them--not even other Harvard students.

Safia Jama '99, who lives in Eliot House, said she feels an on-line facebook "would be convenient."

"This guy right here," Jama said, gesturing to her neighbor, "recognized me from the facebook."

Another Eliot House resident, who was eating dinner yesterday, said: "I've never looked at it. It takes too damn long to load."

Most houses print facebooks annually. They provide alphabetical listings and photos of every house resident, as well as most tutors and employees.

Eliot House officials refused to comment yesterday as to whether they will also issue printed editions of the facebook.
