PBHA Grants Have Been Increased

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

I am writing to correct the inaccurate headline and story which appeared on April 23 announcing "PBHA Funding Reduced: President's Grant Amount Lessened."

No organization received less than it was awarded the previous year and our new programs received funds. In fact, the total amount distributed for 1996-97 from the President's Public Service Fund (PPSF) represented a slight increase over 1995-96.

Although I was not asked for comment, I chaired the March 21 meeting of the PPSF Committee which awarded grants to 30 undergraduate public service organizations. Although I do not speak for the members of the Committee, I doubt there is any disagreement over the desirability of increasing funds for public service programs. --Judith H. Kidd   Assistant Dean of Harvard College   for Public Service and Director of the   Phillips Brooks House
