Let's Go researchers, normally confined to the printed word, will be launching into the realm of television with the help of CNN.
Let's Go Travel, a division of Harvard Student Agencies, signed a contract with the news network last week to produce eight pilot episodes for CNN's "Travel Guide."
"Absolutely Thrilled"
"We're absolutely thrilled with it because it's been in the planning stages for a long time now and it's finally going to happen," according to SoRelle B. Braun '96, the managing editor of Let's Go Travel who is also a former executive of The Crimson.
The program will feature Let's Go researchers giving "mini-tours" in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Miami.
CNN will tape two short segments in each of the four cities based on information found in the Let's Go Travel Guides: tips on accommodations, sights, entertainment and restaurants will be included, Braun said.
The producers of CNN's "Travel Guide" program will meet with Let's Go researchers tomorrow to discuss the regions they plan to cover. They will also talk with the researchers about past travel experiences, Braun said.
"I think they just want to get to know us," said Daniel J. Hruschka '96, associate editor for Eastern Europe.
Braun said the producers also want to meet with the researchers to see how they will perform in front of the camera.
All the selected destinations will be of the "budget" variety, but will be visually appealing as well, according to Braun.
"There is an Inn in San Francisco called the Red Victorian, where every room is different," she said.
"It is one that will look spectacular on film," she said.
While the contract between Let's Go and the news superstation currently includes only the eight pilot episodes in domestic cities, Braun said television tours of several European cities, including London, Paris, Berlin, Tel Aviv and Moscow, are already in the initial planning stages.
