ATHLETE of the WEEK

By Ethan G. Drogin

Though she may not be the flashiest of players, junior point guard Jessica Gelman proved in Harvard's weekend sweep of Princeton and Penn what a valuable all-around talent she is.

In the Crimson's 81-56 victory at Princeton on Friday, Gelman displayed a lethal offensive touch, netting 13 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to slam the door on the Tigers.

One night later in an 85-63 trouncing of Penn, Gelman showed her value on the other side of the ball.

Despite scoring 10 points on just 3-for-11 shooting, her team-high three steals were part of a swarming defensive effort that caused a total of 27 Penn turnovers.

With crucial league games against Columbia and Cornell this week, Harvard will need more of Gelman's tenacity to wrap up its season in Ivy-winning style.
