Sex Toys On Sale

By Abby Y. Fung

Sometimes the bedroom can only be enlivened with the help of a power tool.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, young lovers might be wise to check out Hubba Hubba, a sex-apparel shop located on Mass. Ave near Central Square.

Members of the Hasty Pudding Society were spotted in the tiny store earlier this week trying on leather jackets and vinyl pants to wear at the Pudding's annual Leather and Lace celebration held yesterday evening.

But the theatrical group members haven't come close to walking on the wild side, according to Mr. Lee, Hubba Hubba's dimunitive and affable owner.

"Dick torture devices, nipple clamps and chain dildos" are some of the more popular items on display, Lee says.

"All kinds of people use these things," Lee says. "Married couples, college students, strippers...."

Though no Hubba Hubba patrons would discuss their purchases, Lee was more than happy to discuss his store's product line.

"The most popular items are handcuffs," he says.

The frugal customer will choose the $10 handcuffs, which are merely for decorative purposes, Lee says. The lavish shopper can spend $24 for "the Real McCoy."

Another popular item are the whips, Lee says, but most whips sold at Hubba Hubba are merely for decorative purposes.

"[T]hey fray easily...and fall apart after one or two uses," he says.

The shop's busiest times are during Christmas, Halloween and Valentine's Day.

Lee suggests that Harvard students buy body paints for their significant others "or best friends."

"It is probably what everyone wants and needs," he says. "Plus they're really fun because they come in all different colors and flavors."
