HARVARD WRESTLING TURNS INTO A GRANIT STATE

By Eric F. Brown

Renowned world coach Granit Taropin was named assistant wrestling coach at Harvard yesterday.

Taropin has been the head coach of the Dynamo Kiev Wrestling Club as well as the head coach of the Indian and British National Teams. He has also been a Soviet National team coach.

Taropin's progenies include the famous Beloglasov twins, Sergie and Anatoly, who were Olympic Champions in both Moscow and Seoul and sat out the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Taropin also coached 68kilogram World Champion M. Harichura.

"Having someone with Granit's talent and experience is a tremendous coup for Harvard wrestling," third-year coach Jay Weiss said. "His international coaching expertise will elevate the program to a higher level, building on last year's success."

In 1996, Harvard will return four of five EIWA placewinners, three NCAA qualifiers and one Eastern Champion from last season, the team's best since the 1940.
