Gridders' Eion Hu Awarded Grant

By Rebecca A. Blaeser

Senior tailback Eion Hu is making waves no matter where he goes.

Adding to his already long list of accomplishments, Harvard's career rushing leader was named one of 16 recipients of the 1996 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete award yesterday.

Hu will receive $15,000 for postgraduate study and will be honored at an awards dinner in New York City on December 10.

In order to receive the award, the athletes must have GPA of at least 3.0 and have demonstrated excellence on the football field, in the classroom and in their community.

Other recipients include University of Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, Ohio State linebacker Greg Bellisari, Penn State quarterback Wally Richardson and University of Texas right end Pat Fitzgerald.

Producing an average GPA of 3,737, Hu and the other 15 recipients have certainly shown that athletics and academics can go hand in hand.
