MIT's Not All Greek

MIT's Hellenic Student Association hosted its first Greek party of the year last night to celebrate the anniversay of Cyprus' independence from Turkey.

Members of the Latino and Lebanese groups at MIT, as well as members of Sillogos, the Greek association at Harvard, were invited to McGregor, an MIT dorm, last night.

The music at the party was ecletic, incorporating cultural music along with the standard club mix. Selections included Latino, Greek and Arabic music.

The variety of music played last night was intended to satisfy different student tastes, according to event organizer, Konstantina Drakouli, the general secretary of the Hellenic association's executive committee.

Last night's party was not only about having a good time, said Drakouli. "It [was] to raise awareness" of the importance of the independence that was gained by the people of Cyprus, she said.

Event organizers said they hoped this party would have a bigger turnout than past parties. In the past, their parties have attracted between 60 and 70 people.
