The Harvard men's soccer team came away with a loss and a tie this past weekend at the Adidas/Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Crimson (1-1-1), which could not bring any of its freshmen down to the tournament due to Orientation Week activities, rebounded from one goal down twice yesterday to earn a 2-2 tie with the College of Charleston (2-3-1). On Friday, Harvard fell to No. 7 North Carolina, 2-0.
Junior Will Kohler's goal into the right corner of the net with under 14 minutes left in regulation knotted yesterday's contest for good. Sophomore Toure McCluskey had tied the score at 1-1 just 1:05 after halftime.
Sophomore goalie Peter Albers stopped seven shots, while Charleston goalie Brian Cherry turned aside nine Crimson blasts.
On Friday, Harvard showed its many doubters that it is a darn good team. With only two substitutions on the bench, the Crimson played practically evenly with the Tar Heels (5-1-0), each team garnering 11 shots and three corner kicks. UNC opened the scoring with just three ticks left in the first half and put the game out of reach 10:47 into the second period.
