Senior Tutor Peckham Takes Two-Month Maternity Leave

Mather House Allston Burr Senior Tutor Mary Peckham began a two-month maternity leave yesterday. Her first child is due today, December 2.

Peckham, who has been senior tutor for three years, said Non-Resident Tutor John T. Patterson will serve as acting senior tutor Caring her leave.

Patterson resumed the duties of the senior tutor yesterday and will continue in that office until the next semester.

"I think that it is my great age and the fact that I've been hanging out around Harvard long enough to sock up some of its rules and mores." Patterson said of his appointment as acting tutor.

A long-time Mather House tutor, Patterson served for these years as a resident tutor and was a non-resident this year and last.

A former attorney, Patterson earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1982.

He is currently a tutor in American Legal History, the field in which he is pursuing an advanced degree.

Patterson said yesterday he is looking forward to the job and learning more about the College's administration.

"Mary is only going to be 100 yards away from me," Patterson said, adding that he is looking forward to counseling students and has already sat in on several administrative board meetings.
