A Fish Out of Water

By Natasha H. Leland

Name:Deborah L Kory

HouseDudley Co-op

Concentration: English and American Language and Literature.

Her major swimming awards: Co-Captain of the Harvard team the last two years. NCAA Division I championships three years in a row. Eastern champion for the last three years in 200 and 400 individual medley. MVP last three years. Five gold medals in the Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Her astrological sign: Pisces.

Animal she sees herself as: It would have to be something aquatic, so something like a Hammerhead.

If she sleeps on her back, front or side: I sleep in all directions. It reflects me eclectic tastes and my chameleon-like personality.

What she likes about swimming: It's a place where I'm completely comfortable and confident, and I've enjoyed more than anything else being on a team, Swimming isn't that much fun alone.

If she thinks there's a separate athletic community: Yes. They tend to be slightly more rambunctious and they definitely live in certain houses.

What she thinks of the total randomization plan: I'm mostly in support of it because people protested in front of University Hall--it was so arrogant because they had plenty of time to express their views early in the semester. No one protests anything of moral importance on this campus. There is all sorts of stuff going on in our country with the changes in Congress and education and welfare cuts and nobody gives a shit.

How difficult it will be to give up swimming: I already did. It was one of the most difficult experiences in my whole life because I had concentrated more of my energy on that than anything else an now that it's gone I feel a little aimless. I have yet to fill in that space but the freedom is nice too.

What she's going to do after she graduates: I'm sick of trying to answer that.Next?

One word to sum up Harvard: I've really loved it here. It's very cushiony and comfortable and it's been a nice place to spend four years.

If she can picture herself in 20 years: No, I can't project myself past this summer, which has been part of my angst and difficulty.
