10. The Dynamic Duo

Sometimes individuals have to carry the team. In running individuals are the team, and the team is just the sum of its parts. As a result, individuals get the glory.

A pair of individuals carried Harvard's banner to NCAA competitions in both cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Ian Carswell and Karen Goetze's finest hour came at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Ind. where both garnered indoor All-America status.

Carswell, a native of Canada, clocked in at 8:08.64, placing seventh in the 3000 meter. Goetze, a French national with dual citizenship, came in at 2:08.99, good enough for eighth place in the 800.

Carswell became the first Harvard runner to make the national cross country meet since Peter Gompers in 1987. Goetze became the first indoor track All-America since 1990.
