Harvard University Health Services (UHS) was awarded an accreditation with commendation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation, a committee which inspects all major hospitals every three years.
The award of certification "with commendation" indicates excellence in the quality of health care provided in areas such as patient care, hospital management and education.
The award of certification "with commendation" is the highest level of accreditation awarded by the commission, which is the nation's largest and oldest accrediting body.
UHS Director David S. Rosenthal '59 said in a statement to the Harvard Gazette he appreciates the receipt of the award.
"Accreditation with commendation recognizes UHS's commitment to serving the needs of the various populations of the University," Rosenthal said. "I am very pleased that the high standards and excellent quality of health care carried out by the staff of UHS have been recognized by the Joint commission."
