MEN'S LACROSSE BATTLES ELEMENTS, VERMONT FOR WIN

By David S. Griffel

Technically, it's spring.

There was sun, daylight savings time and a Harvard men's lacrosse win.

But there were also wind-chill temperatures of minus-20 degrees yesterday in Burlington, Vermont, where the Crimson posted a 10-8 win over the Catamounts of Vermont.

Harvard (4-1 overall, 2-0 Ivy) staked itself to a 3-0 lead in the arctic conditions at Centennial Field on goals by seniors Jamie Aimes, co-captain Steve Gaffney and Spencer Rice. Harvard then held on, as sophomore goaltender Rob Lyng turned aside 18 shots by winless Vermont (0-4) to preserve the victory.

Aimes scored four goals in the contest, while Gaffney added two. Juniors Mike Eckert and Christ Wojcik also scored goals for the Crimson.

In addition to his goal, Eckert--Harvard's leading scorer so far this season--assisted on four other Harvard tallies. Freshman Mike Ferrucci and junior Pat Marvin set up two goals apiece.

Harvard is in action again Saturday when it takes on Notre Dame at South Bend.
