McNamara Ought To Donate to Vets

TO THE EDITORS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

I don't have any problem with Robert McNamara exercising freedom of speech by coming to Harvard University.

I do have a problem with Robert McNamara making millions of dollars on his book while, at the same time, countless numbers of men and women have died and suffered lifelong trauma because of his incompetent leadership while serving as the Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War. As a 45-year-old non-veteran it irritates me that McNamara will become even richer by promoting his book while others still suffer with every tick of the clock.

If he had any remorse he would without hesitation donate all proceeds from his book to Vietnam veterans that are currently alive and confined to Veterans Hospitals across our nation.

His rhetoric now is exactly the same as it was during the Vietnam War-driven by greed and self-interest.

I am in favor of a class-action suit brought against him by disabled veterans across the country who have suffered nearly 30 years of mental and physical pain needlessly because of his now-professed "mistakes." George Hitt   Milton, MA
