UNICEF Kiosk Opens

At the ripe old age of 50, UNICEF is going to college--Harvard, that is.

UNICEF, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, has opened its own kiosk for the holiday season in the Holyoke Center Arcade in Harvard Square. It will be open seven days a week during arcade hours until December 31.

The kiosk will offer a variety of UNICEF products, including their popular greeting cards which feature designs by famous international artists and diverse themes celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid Mobarak, peace, birthdays and more.

The kiosk will also feature UNICEF gifts ranging from the traditional UNICEF desk agendas to handbags, purses and wreathes designed and woven by entrepreneurs in Guatemalan industries supported by UNICEF.

"UNICEF-Boston is happy to be in Holyoke Center, under Harvard University's wing," said Executive Director Ed Mitchell. "I hope this marks the beginning of a new relationship which will benefit both organizations."

According to a UNICEF press release, the purchase of one card will provide money for enough vaccine to immunize 16 children against tuberculosis, and one desk agenda will buy a large chalkboard for an underfunded school system's classroom.
