By Andrew S. Chang

Dr. Enriqueta Bond, a national expert in science and medical policy, will discuss the changing nature of biomedical research at Radcliffe's annual Fac Golden Kass Lecture next Thursday, according to a press release.

Bond will address issues relating to future funding for research and maintaining a high-quality scientific work force, according to the release.

Bond is currently the president of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, a Durham, North Carolina-based foundation established to support medical research and education. She also served for 12 years as executive officer of the Institute of Medicine, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.

Radcliffe president Linda S. Wilson said she is enthusiastic about Bond's speech.

"In light of Dr. Bond's impressive science background and her knowledge of funding. I'm confident she will provide important insights into the future of biomedical research," Wilson said in a statement.

Bond will deliver the Kass Lecture, co-sponsored by Radcliffe and the Harvard Medical School, at 4:30 p.m. in Longfellow Hall 100.

The annual Kass Lecture supports a speech by a woman in the medical sciences.

The lecture is named for Fac Gordon Kass, a psychiatric social worker and career counselor, was committed to the promotion and education of women.

Bond, who graduated from Wellesley College, received her master's degree from the University of Virginia and her Ph.D. from Georgetown University, both in biology and genetics.
