Gridders Set Marks

In spite of Harvard's grueling loss to Penn Saturday, the Crimson enjoyed a record setting day.

Senior punter Tim Griffin moved into first place on the all-time list for punts. Griffin, a senior, needed only two coming into Saturday's contest to overtake the 164 mark set by Jim Villanueva '84 set over a decade ago. He boomed six, averaging 38.5 yards per punt.

With a tremendously productive offensive game, tailback Eion Hu moved into second-place all-time in rushing yards for Harvard. Hu's 133 rushing yards vaulted him past Dick Clasby '54 (1,825 yards) and Ted DeMars '73 (1,889) on the all-time list for career rushing yards. Hu's 58-yard third-quarter touchdown run lifted him into third place on the list. Going into the final game of the season Hu (1,937 yards) needs only 194 yards to overtake all-time leader, Jim Callinan '82, who has 2,130 yards.

Hu approached another career landmark on Saturday as he moved into fourth-place all-time in single season rushing yardage. Hu now has 926 yards on the season, and is only 126 yards behind Callinan's single-season record 1,054 yards set back in 1981. Hu already holds the number two spot on the list for last year's campaign in which he rushed for 1,011 yards. A good game against Yale next Saturday could bring him to the top.

Hu is also 26 carries shy of breaking his single-season rushing attempt record after his 24 carry effort on Saturday. Hu set the mark of 234 attempts last season.

Strong safety Kevin Dwan had 10 stops Saturday to close in on the all-time record for career tackles by a Crimson player. Dwan (229 tackles) is 45 behind the 273 Joe Azelby '84 racked up.

Senior inside linebacker Justin Franz also had 10 tackles in the losing effort for Harvard. Franz now needs only 14 stops to break the single-season mark of 101 set by Brent Wilkinson '86 in 1985.

Franz passed Wilkinson to move into fourth on the all-time tackling list for Harvard with his defensive effort on Saturday. Frantz needs only four more tackles in the final game of his career to move past Bob Woolway '81 (189) into third place.

Fellow linebacker Brian Borg played well Saturday, recording four tackles and an interception for the Crimson. Unfortunately Harvard could not capitalize on Borg's pick-off; Ryan Korinke's field goal attempt was blocked in the resulting offensive drive.

Return specialist Kweli Thompson had a good day on special teams, running back four kicks for an average of 21 yards per return.
