Harvard University police stopped four men who appeared to be vandalizing Weeks Bridge outside Leverett House at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, according to the police blotter.

The men, who had one can of spray paint in their possession, were not charged with any criminal offense because there was no wet paint on the bridge when the Officers David Rourke and James Pagnong arrived on the scene.

Harvard Police Chief Paul E. Johnson said the suspects were stopped prior to defacing any part of the bridge and were not in possession of any egal substances.

The can of spray paint was confiscated by the officers, who advised the suspects to leave the bridge after interviewing them, Johnson said.

Three of the suspects are Cambridge residents and one lives in Somerville. All requested that their names be withheld.
