Staff Cuts Not Part of Report

To the Editors:

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

I am writing to correct a misunderstanding. The Crimson has recently reported or quoted individuals to the effect that the recent Report on the Structure of Harvard College recommends staff reductions in the College's support for public service. Although the Report recommends that a single person have clear responsibility for all public service programs in the College, it does not recommend staff reductions.

Should the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences decide to implement the report's recommendations, the number of staff positions, which has grown in past years, will likely remain the same. Certainly, jobs and job descriptions would change as a result of the reorganization of public service support under a single Assistant Dean/Director, but that is not a staff reduction. --Nancy Maull   FAS Administrative Dean   Co-Chair,   Committee on College Structure
