Hollis B. Chenery, the Cabot professor of economics, emeritus, died September 1 of pneumonia at his home in Santa Fe, N.M. The professor was 77.

Chenery worked at a variety of jobs. He was a Harvard professor from 1965-1970, following a nine-year stint at Stanford.

During the 1970s, he worked as vice president for development policy at the World Bank.
