ON MONDAY, MORE THAN 300,000 SWARMED TO THE ESPLANADE IN BOSTON TO HEAR THE BOSTON POPS PLAY IN THE HATCH SHELL AND TO WATCH FIREWORKS LIGHT UP THE SKY OVER THE CHARLES RIVER. DESPITE THE FORECAST, THERE WAS NO RAIN WHATSOEVER--BUT TO THOSE WHO GOT THERE EARLY TO SECURE A GOOD 1SPOT, THE DAY SEEMED LONG.
