Phi Beta Kappa Elects 24 Juniors

By H. NICOLE Lee

Harvard chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, an undergraduate academic honor society, announced the election of 24 juniors yesterday.

The recognition was bestowed upon 13 science and 11 humanities concentrators, with Leverett House having the highest number of honorees.

Although many inductees acknowledged prioritizing academic work, few said they had given up much else. Indeed, lots of sleep seemed helpful in garnering the honor.

Social studies concentrator Sarah E. Light '95, a members of the Veritones and Crimson Key Society, manages to squeeze in eight-and-a-half hours of sleep a night.

"I work very hard but I manage to have fun," said Light. "It takes time management skills...and I'm a big fan of power-napping."

And Reshma Jagsi '95, a government concentrator who is a member of the Phillips Brooks House board of directors, finds time for 12 hours of sleep.

Most Phi Beta Kappa recipients said they did not feel they were missing out by focusing on their studies.

"It's a great honor to be elected," said EricH. Baker '95, a government concentrator. "It meansa lot to me, and I don't really feel I've had tosacrifice anything."

But pre-med classics concentrator George J.Harocopos '95 said he saw his sacrifices as a"trade-off."

"I don't mind sacrificing other activities, because I'm willing to apply whatever effort ittakes," Harocopos said. "I'm not so much concernedwith my grades, my goal is to complete my work tomy own satisfaction. I mean, I'm pleased with myown work and that's what matters the most."

Elected to the Alpha Chapter were Baker, ScottD. Bredall '95, Andrew Chen '95, Chieh T. Cheung'95, Jeremy A. Dauber '95, Robert B. Forster '95,Harocopos, Rajesh S. James '95, Irwin H. Lee '95,Yibo Shao '95, Benjamin C. Sun '95 and Craig D.Weissman '95. Dauber is a Crimson editor.

Elected to the Iota Chapter were Rebecca M.Boggs '95, Amy N. Finkelstein '95, Lila M.Guterman '95, Jagsi, Light, Theresa W. Lynn '95,Annamaria F. Magpayo '95, Debor-ah M. Mitchell'95, Jean M. Ou '95, Reshmi Rabindranathan '95,Elisabeth M. Remy '95 and Ina P. Rhee'95
