This is not the magazine to accompany the course 'Jazz: An American Music,' side A. But you're probably thinking it could be. After all, maybe it wasn't such a coincidence that we both took the course last fall. We know most people didn't fulfill their concert requirements. Two live performances, maybe. But three? Students have lives, Professor Boone. Lamont Library awaits. Extracurriculars beckon. We don't have an hour to spare. Plus, it's too cold. Cambridge isn't designed for walking in winter--that's why they don't bother do deal with those lakes in the road.

But spring is coming. Soon. After February. And March. And April...By then the semester will be almost up, and maybe we'll have learned how to parent FM. We'll even have gone to a few classes--most of them during shopping period. The intro lecture tells you everything you need to know, and we're not at Harvard to learn, anyway. We just want jobs when we graduate. At least that's what we're trying to tell ourselves this week, as we enter the junior year requirement-fulfilling frenzy. We love the Core. We will love CS161. Most of all, we love FM.
