Arts/Boston Should Use the Copley Square Location

DISSENT

By George Wang

The staff seems to suggest that Arts/Boston refuses to consider other locations simply because of its stubbornness and desire to be uncooperative. But the truth is that Arts/Boston does have a valid reason for its decision.

Locating a kiosk in Copley Square Park exempts Arts/Boston from property taxes, which makes the project financially feasible.

Arts/Boston is not a giant corporation with huge reserve funds, but a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting cultural events and allowing those who cannot normally afford the extravagant ticket prices (students included) to attend these events. Arts/Boston simply cannot afford other, more costly locations.

We have a simple choice: a small kiosk in Copley Square Park, or no kiosk at all.
