Lynx Club Hosts North End Party

By Margaret Isa, Special to The Crimson

BOSTON--The "Lynx," a new all-female social club, held a "private party" in the basement of Lucia's Restaurant in the North End last night.

The women did not answer any questions or allow a Crimson reporter to observe the proceedings. "If you want to eat, you can eat upstairs. This is a private party," said Jennifer W. Grove '94.

The Crimson has learned that the Lynx now has about 20 members. Among those at the party were Melissa B. Fisher '94 and Margaret L. Roberts '96, whom The Crimson previously identified as Lynx members. Jennifer A. Paisner '95 was also in attendance.

A source has told The Crimson that the president of the Lynx is named Nicole. Last night's party reservation was made under that name.

Lynx members will not say whether their group is a final club.

Fisher, Grove and Roberts are members of a Kappa Alpha Theta chapter formed by Harvard women last January. The Theta chapter has about 35 members, Theta officers said.

Roberts is house manager of Theta, which does not have a house, said Melissa A. Rohrbach '95, Theta's vice president for public relations.

Theta acquires new members through an open rush process. Fisher was the group's co-rush chair through last fall's rush, Rohrbach said. She has since resigned from that post.

Theta officers have denied any connection between their group and the Lynx, Rohrbach and Theta president Jennifer R. Brosnahan '95 could not be reached for comment last night.

The Crimson has learned that the Lynx has had a closed membership selection process, similar to that of the final clubs.

Invitations to a tea at the Ritz Carlton last week were delivered to the doors of a number of Harvard women. in the same way that final club punch notices are.
