KSA Elects Slate of New Officers

President Pledges To Sponsor More 'Concrete' Activities

By Leo H. Cheung

David J. H. Kim was elected president of the Korean Students Association (KSA) Saturday on a platform pledging to increase membership and sponsor more "concrete" activities impacting on the broader Korean community.

Kim, who beat out five other candidates for the post, was one of a slate of nine new officers elected Saturday by approximately 50 KSA members.

Kim said he is determined to promote more creative activities which will have an impact on the Korean community at Harvard.

"We will make KSA an organization that can support students in any plans that they might have," Kim said.

The KSA will organize interested members to help Korean orphans adopted by American parents, Kim said, and "there will also be a Korean as a Second Language program."

Kim said he will also work to draw more students into KSA he said.

"We will make organizational changes and create concrete programs," Kim said. "We will push hard to involve more members, especially those who were previously marginalized from the KSA."

He will also work to improve the financial situation of the KSA, he said.

"The financial situation of the KSA is very unstable," said Kim. "Currently we are actively securing new funding from alumni networks. We also have several other business solutions to solve short-term problems."

Kim was a self-styled "dark horse" candidate who said he had not been closely involved in previous KSA activities.

"Although Dave has not been known for what he has done within KSA, he has accomplished a lot in other organizations, especially the Krocadillos and the new a capella group which he just formed," said John Kim '95 a member of KSA. "Dave possesses an outsider looking- in perspective. I think this is what KSA needsand this is why I elected him,"
