Sharpton Speaks, Calls for Activism

The Rev. Al Sharpton came to Harvard Wednesday night. And in an address in Emerson Hall, he called on Black students to become community activists.

"In this month, as we commemorate Black history, the challenge is not that we review the past, but that we deal with the present and the future," Sharpton said.

Sharpton criticized the current generation of Black students for "not following the struggle of the generation before them."

"In recent years, we've gone from [Martin Luther] King and Malcolm [X.] to Snoop Doggy Dogg," Sharpton said.

"Every movement in this nation has been populated by students," he added. "We must ask what this generation will contribute."
