Some potentially great news for the Harvard men's soccer team: even with an overall record of 5-8-2, the Crimson might wind up with a home game in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
As postulated in Monday's edition of The Crimson. Harvard's most likely opening opponent in the tournament would be 16-0-1 and number one ranked Boston University. First-round pairings generally involve teams within the same region, and there can be little doubt that BU's and Harvard's records lie on opposite ands of the available spectrum.
But the Terners play their home games on the same field they play their football team plays its home games--and Nickerson Field has artificial turf.
The NCAA does not want to any tournament games to be contested on Astroturf. And it doesn't want to play any games on neutral territory, for reasons of fan interest and atmosphere.
The matchup still seems likely, although the official pairings will not be announced until Sunday evening. Which means Ohiri Field may not have seen its last Harvard men's soccer drama.
