Officers of the Delphic Club strongly denied this weekend that any of their members were involved in a prank played last week on the cochairs of Women Appealing for Change (WAC).
Delphic President Zachary T. Cooper '94 said he could "personally guarantee" that the pranksters were not Delphic initiates.
A statement issued to The Crimson over the weekend by Cesar Conde '95, Delphic punch chair, requested "a retraction of the statements that implicated the Delphic Club," and said the club would "greatly appreciate a public apology from the WAC co-chairs and the organization."
In the statement, Conde wrote that the club, "in conjunction with the WAC organization [had] established that the Delphic Club was not involved in the incident."
But WAC co-chairs Francie Walton '94 and Emily Buxton '94 would not retract statements they made to The Crimson last week implicating Delphic punchees in the incident. Neither Walton nor Buxton would comment further.
Walton was asked by a student identifying himself as an Independent reporter for an interview and a photo of the co-chairs. Buxton said in an earlier interview that she later heard a member of the Delphic Club say that the "reporters" were Delphic initiates.
"I don't necessarily agree with her [Walton], but I think it was a nasty thing to do," Cooper said.
"I don't particularly find it funny. I think whoever did it was a jerk," he said. "It upsets me that certain individuals would accuse people and have it printed when they obviously hadn't Independent Executive Editor Mike P.
