NET Founder Speaks

In Brief

By Emily Carrier

Paul Weyrich, the founder of National Empowerment Television (NET) says his politics sit to the right of Genghis Khan.

Well, not literally. But as Weyrich told an audience of approximately 40 at the Kennedy School of Government yesterday, he sits in his Washington D.C. office to the right, spatially, of a reproduction of the Mongol leader's sword hanging on his wall.

Weyrich founded NET more than two years ago. The network is the most recent creation of the man who also founded the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington D.C.

NET broadcasts via "narrowcasts," or programs transmitted on a special satellite band to target audience groups, whose satellite dishes are properly equipped.

NET is planning an expansion, Weyrich said. Beginning next month, regular cable subscribers will have access to the network 24 hours a day.
