Swastika Defiles Salon On Cambridge Street

A swastika sticker was attached to the front of a family-owned manicure salon on Cambridge Street Saturday night, the salon owners said.

Mary A. Grossi, one of the owners of the salon located at 389B Cambridge Street, reported the vandalism to the police Sunday afternoon, according to police reports.

Grossi refused to comment on the incident, and police familiar with the case could not be reached last night.

Joseph G. Grassi, another of the salon's owners, said the hate crime was the first such incident the family has experienced. "We reported the incident to the police and they came and photographed the scene," he said.

But another episode was reported in Cambridge earlier this month, when a swastika was found on a house on Richdale Street.

Jeremy A. Dauber '95, chair of the Coordinator Council of Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel, said the appearance of a swastika "is a reprehensible thing. Anytime something like this occurs it is extremely hurtful."
