Niemans Honor Haitian Journalist

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Jean Mario Paul, a radio correspondent in Haiti, has been given the 1992 Louis M. Lyons Award by the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.

Paul won the award for his courage despite government intimidation after the September 1991 coup in Haiti and for his reporting on local official corruption, the foundation said Tuesday.

The Lyons award is given for conscience and integrity in Journalism.

Paul, a reporter with Radio Antilles Internationale in Haiti, was arrested and beaten during the coup, according to the foundation. He was released when a judge dismissed charges against him for lack of evidence. From our wire services.
