$1100 Proceeds Gone After Cabot Formal

By Rajath Shourie, Crimson Staff Writer

The most successful formal in Cabot House history turned sour when organizers discovered the next day that all the proceeds had been misplaced.

Organizers said over 250 people attended the April 26 formal, a house record, but employees at the club where the formal was held "misplaced" the $1100 collected from ticket sales.

According to Cabot House Committee Co-Chair Ali Binazir '93, the management of the Zanzibar club has agreed to give Cabot a free formal in the future to compensate for the loss

Binazir said that on the night of the formalmembers of the house committee left the cash boxcontaining the money with Zanzibar employees.

After the formal was over, the committeemembers forgot to take the box back, Binazir said.

When they asked the Zanzibar employees aboutthe money the next day, they discovered that thebox, and the $ 1100, had been misplaced.

Although the club actually lost the moneyBinazar said that the house committee members weretaking full responsibility. House committeemembers distributed a letter to residentsexplaining the loss of the money.

"Zanzibar lost our cash box, in spite of theimmense competence of the three present housecommittee members who left it with the Zanzibarmanagement (Mistake #1) and then forgot to bringit home that night (Mistake #2)," the letter says.

Zanzibar did not refund the $1100 that housecommittee members said was in the cash box, butthe club agreed to hold another formal in thefuture at no cost to the house, according to theletter.

"Zanzibar offered us another date on the house, throwing in free food (read: cheapskates need nottake date out to dinner)...effectively acceptingresponsibility," the letter says.

Binazir said that because the free formalpackage is worth about $2000, the house stands togain from the mistake...
