To the Editors of The Crimson:
I have been following the debate about the Dunster House toaster with interest, but I must confess that I don't understand what the ruckus is all about.
Noel Ignatiev seems to be making some sort of "separation of church and state" argument. Unfortunately, this argument makes no sense, since Harvard is a private university, and not (at least since Ronald Reagan was elected) an arm of the state.
The university has been funding objects for religious purposes for more than 350 years.
Has Mr. Ignatiev also been protesting the use of university funds to maintain Memorial Church? Or perhaps the Divinity School? Margaret Stock '85
