Repairs Affect Water Supply

Emergency repairs of water pipes in Claverly Hall left residents waterless for four hours yesterday.

A major blockage in the main waste disposal pipe required that the water be shut off while the pipes were cleared.

The inconvenience forced many residents to go without showers. Claverly resident Kiara Y. Ghartey '93 woke up only to find that neither the showers nor faucets worked--on the day of her senior portrait shoot.

"I had to go to Kirkland House for my shower," Ghartey said.

For others trying to wash or obey the call of Mother Nature between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., it was a morning of frustration.

"It was kind of inconvenient to not have any cold water," said Dechen Y. Wangdu '95. "The hot water died a few seconds after I turned on the faucet, and strange noises started coming from the sink."

Later in the afternoon, notices were dropped at students' doors saying that pipe repairs were being made and asking that students not use showers or toilets until repairs were completed.

Water was turned back on at 2 p.m. after the blockage in the pipes was cleared.
