Newsletter Will Focus On Africa, Caribbean

By David B. Lat, Contributing Reporter

A newsletter devoted to the politics and culture of Africa and the Caribbean began its first drive for submissions this week, organizers said.

The newsletter, to be named Roots and Culture, is a joint project of the Harvard African Students Association and the Caribbean Club. It will be funded by those groups and by the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations.

The publication will include articles about current political and social debates in Africa and the Caribbean, as well as about issues that affect African and Caribbean students on campus, said Charissa A. Latibeaudiere '94, a Roots and Culture editor.

"We will also publish poems and cultural essays," Latibeaudiere said. "We hope that Roots and Culture will eventually evolve from a newsletter into a monthly magazine."

Latibeaudiere said she hopes to have the first issue out by winter break.
