Danforth Center to Be Renamed After Bok

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

As a farewell gesture to outgoing President Derek C. Bok, members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) renamed the Danforth Center of Teaching and Learning the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning at Tuesday's meeting of the full body.

Accompanying the gift from the Faculty will be $5.3 million for the Center from the Corporation.

In his farewell speech to the Faculty, Bok thanked members for their forbearance in submitting to 400 ad-hoc committee searches. He said that he has seen the Faculty evolve from a divided body made up of liberal and conservative "caucuses" to one where members worked closely with each other.

He also thanked the body for dedicating the Center to him. He said that the Center and its aims have been of special interest to him.

The dedication was made by acting FAS Dean Henry Rosovsky. Bok presided over the Faculty meeting for the last time. He will step down from the presidency on July 1.
