Scenes from the Harvard field hockey team's 3-0 loss to Boston University in its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The game brought an end to the most successful season the Crimson has had in the history of the program. It was the last game for the seniors on the squad: LOREN AMBINDER, CECI CLARK, KRISTEN FOWLER, BECKEY GAFFNEY, TINA LAWLER, CHRISTINA PAGLINALUAN, and LISA YADAO. In the past four years these women have led Harvard (13-4-2 overall in 1991) out of the depths of the Ivy cellar, winning the Ivy League and Boston Four titles, as well as garnering the team's inaugural National Tournament berth.
Clockwise from top left: midfielder BECKY GAFFNEY prepares to send the ball toward B.U.'s net; Co-Captain CECI CLARK hugs her father, BOBBY CLARK '66, after the final game of her Harvard career; Coach SUE CAPLES tries to rally her troops, down by a pair to the Terriers, during halftime at B.U.'s Nickerson Field; Goaltender LISA YADAO dives valiently, though unsuccessfully, to prevent a Terrier penalty stroke from hitting the back of the net; Forward LOREN AMBINDER, a model of hustle, keeps herself low on the artificial turf in hopes of deflecting a B.U. pass.
