B-School Dormitory Burns

A fire broke out at a Business School dorm on Wednesday, but the Boston Fire Department was able to contain the flames to one suite of rooms, department officials said.

The fire department responded to the phone calls at 9:35 p.m. by sending three engines, two ladder companies, and one rescue vehicle and put out the fire by 10:23 p.m., according to department spokesperson Ronald D. Caron.

Caron estimated that the fire caused $40,000 in damages but said that no injuries were reported. The occupants of the torched room, Robert and Amanda Setile, were not present when the fire started, according to witnesses.

The cause of the fire, which hit 620 Soldiers Field Rd., was listed as a short circuit. There is no suspicion of arson, Caron said.

Lauren Barley, a first year B-School student said that many students assumed that the alarm was a practical joke because "a lot of times before final exams someone pulls the fire alarms."

"There have been a lot of false alarms in the past so people were less quick to respond to the fire alarm," said Jane H. Nielsen, a second year B-School student.
