Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
The ongoing effort to bring Harvard's communication systems up-to-date continued this week, as University workers informed Lowell House residents that they were next in line for a massive telephone rewiring project.
Lowell Superintendent Jay Coveney this week posted notices in each Lowell entryway notifying students that Harvard-NYNEX/Fujitsu representatives have already begun work on rewiring their telephone lines. With the new Lines, Lowell residents will have telephone line access to a High Speed Data Network (HSDN), which will allow students to contact University modems, computers and voice-mail systems.
Workers this summer finished rewiring the Yard. This winter, they finished wiring Old Quincy House and Claverly Hall.

Harvard-NYNEX/Fujitsu electricians began work on a conduit for the new system in the Lowell basement two months ago. But further work was postponed until February 12, to give students more privacy and less hassle during reading and examination periods.
According to Coveney, the workers are currently verifying the telephone numbers. He said the acutal rewiring would begin around March 1, and would likely be completed sometime in April.
